What Is Vacuum Recovery?

Vacuum recovery is a specialized water reclamation process that captures the wash water produced during pressure washing. By placing a hose over the drain spot, we can pump dirty water, oils, grease, detergents, and debris back into our trucks before they can run across your property or enter storm drains. Once we've completed the job, we take the dirty water with us so you don't have to worry about disposing of it.

This closed-loop system allows us to clean large commercial surfaces without leaving behind contaminated water or creating runoff violations. As we wash, the vacuum head collects fine sediment and chemical residue, to keep your property clean, dry, and compliant with environmental regulations.

The result is a deeper, safer cleaning process that removes contaminants completely rather than simply pushing them from one area of your property to another.

How Vacuum Recovery Works

  1. We apply hot water and detergents to clean the surface. Our commercial pressure washing equipment lifts grease, grime, oil, dirt, and organic buildup from concrete and other hard surfaces.
  2. A vacuum head immediately collects the wastewater. Instead of letting dirty water spread across your property, the vacuum tool captures it at the source, along with sediment, chemicals, and cleaning agents.
  3. The wastewater is pumped into our holding tank. Hoses pull the contaminated water directly into our truck, preventing runoff into storm drains, landscaping, or neighboring areas.
  4. We dispose of it properly after leaving your property. CleanPro follows all EPA and MSD guidelines for wastewater disposal, so you never have to worry about compliance or environmental impact.

Lastly, depending on your property and operations, vacuum recovery makes it possible to continue business as usual while we clean since water and contaminants won’t pool or flow through the rest of your property.

Why Vacuum Recovery Matters for Your St. Louis Business

Beyond helping keep your property cleaner and safer, vacuum recovery helps you stay compliant and protect the investments you've made in your property. Here's why you need to hire an exterior cleaning company that uses it:

Stay Compliant & Protect Our Waterways

Storm drains don’t lead to wastewater treatment facilities. Whatever flows into a storm drain – trash, chemicals, detergents, or contaminated wash water – goes directly into local streams, creeks, and rivers. In heavy enough rain, that waste water can flow over yards, driveways, and streets before entering the storm system.

St. Louis businesses are legally obligated to keep contaminants out of the storm sewer system, by regulations from both the EPA and the Metropolitan St. Louis Sewer District (MSD).

Businesses that allow contaminated water to reach storm drains may face penalties, remediation expenses, and increased regulatory oversight. These violations can also result in failed inspections and a damaged public image.Vacuum recovery helps you avoid this by, protecting the health of the Mississippi River, local creeks, and surrounding St. Louis neighborhoods.

Safety and Surface Preservation

The leftover chemicals, water, and grease from power washing create slick, slippery films on concrete and other surfaces in parking lots, entryways, sidewalks, and loading docks. This creates slip and fall hazards all over the exterior of your property and can even lead to vehicle and pedestrian accidents in parking garages and lots.

Furthermore, for as tough as concrete is, it's actually a pretty porous substance. As the concrete expands and contracts in freeze/thaw seasons, those contaminants can seep into the concrete, creating cracks, potholes, staining, and long-term structural damage.

By keeping wastewater and contaminants from settling on or penetrating the concrete, vacuum recovery helps prevent these hazards, reducing liability while protecting your surfaces from expensive repairs or resurfacing.

Professional Image & First Impressions

The exterior of your business is the first impression you make, and customers and tenants judge your property's exterior harshly.s Dealing with dirty water professionally reflects your commitment to quality.

Customers and tenants don't want to navigate messy, dirty puddles after a cleaning job. If you clean your dumpster pad but push the water to sidewalks and parking lots, customers and tenants are still going to notice a lack of attention to detail and might not want to come back.

Vacuum recovery ensures your entire property looks spotless and welcoming.
